Propolis is a natural product derived from plant resins collected by honeybees. Its chemical composition includes more than 180 compounds, so its biological properties are diverse. The usefulness of immuno-stimulants has been demonstrated in current aquaculture industry since they combine lower costs with the advantage that they can be easily incorporated into the diet and have a low impact for the environment. Furthermore, propolis have many additional physiological and nutritional effects in fish because it contains many nutrients and micronutrients. Our research center have investigated the effects of dietary propolis supplementation on growth, biochemical composition, immune responses, and disease tolerance in each developmental stage for eel, Anguilla japonica. Thus, this review aimed to discuss current statues of propolis research in fish.
